Ahmad Hakimi

Data Analyst · Petaling Jaya

"I had been doing Excel-based analysis for three years and kept hitting the edges of what it could do. The Foundations course gave me a working understanding of when to use a proper model and, more importantly, when not to. The notebooks are what made it click for me — I actually ran the code rather than just watching someone else do it."

Operations Manager · Kuala Lumpur

"The evening schedule was the thing that made it possible for me. I cannot take a half-day off every week. The recorded lectures I watched on the commute; the live session was after dinner. I did not find the maths overwhelming, which I was worried about. The fourth star is because I wish the project instructions were slightly more specific — I spent some time figuring out what was expected."

Software Engineer · Shah Alam

"I had done some ML tutorials online before and always got stuck at the point where I was supposed to apply it to real data. The case studies in the Intermediate track were the missing piece — working through a messy dataset with actual business context rather than a clean Kaggle example. The instructor answered my questions about feature selection in the live session properly, not just pointing me to documentation."

Finance Analyst · Kuala Lumpur

"I enrolled in the Yearlong Subscription after finishing the Foundations course as a standalone and wanting to keep the momentum going. Having a mentor makes a noticeable difference. He reviews my notebooks and asks questions that push me to think about why something works, not just that it works. Twelve months felt like a long commitment, but the structure is what kept me from drifting."

"The Foundations course was the first technical course I had taken since university, so I was nervous. The pace turned out to be manageable. I missed one live session due to a late project at work and the recording was available the next morning, which meant I did not fall behind. I would have liked slightly more worked examples in the notebooks on the evaluation section."

Rajan Menon

Product Manager · Cyberjaya

"As a product manager I work with data scientists regularly but had no hands-on experience with the tools they use. The Foundations course gave me enough working knowledge to have more useful conversations — I can read a notebook now, I know what the metrics mean, and I ask better questions in reviews. That was the outcome I was looking for, not a career change."

Study Journeys

How Three Participants Worked Through the Courses

Participant Journey 01

From spreadsheet analyst to model-confident data practitioner

Starting point

Three years in a data analyst role, proficient in Excel and SQL, but had avoided Python. Wanted to understand when a statistical model was the right tool and how to build one without spending months on theory first.

Path taken

Completed the Foundations course over eight weeks, submitting all notebooks. Moved to the Intermediate track two months later. Total study time across both courses was approximately five months.

Where they landed

Able to build and evaluate supervised models on company data independently. Now writes Python notebooks as part of regular workflow. Applied the skills directly to a churn prediction task at work.

"The thing that surprised me was how quickly the notebooks started feeling like mine rather than exercises. By week five I was modifying the code to try things the notebook did not ask for."

Participant Journey 02

Product manager building ML literacy to work more effectively with data teams

Starting point

Worked closely with ML engineers and data scientists but lacked the technical vocabulary to challenge assumptions or interpret outputs meaningfully. Goal was fluency, not a career change.

Path taken

Completed the Foundations course. Did not proceed to the Intermediate track immediately — instead spent several months applying the foundations material to internal product data with help from the team's data scientists.

Where they landed

Noticeably more effective in sprint reviews. Can read and interpret notebooks shared by the engineering team, ask relevant questions about evaluation methodology, and contribute to model scoping discussions.

"I do not build models as part of my job, but I work alongside the people who do. That Foundations course was the right amount — more would have been diminishing returns."

Participant Journey 03

Full year of structured study through the Yearlong Subscription

Starting point

Finance professional with some Python self-study and a strong interest in applying ML to risk modelling. Wanted a year-long structure rather than starting and stopping self-paced resources.

Path taken

Enrolled in the Yearlong Subscription. Completed both courses, attended monthly cohort sessions throughout, and worked with a senior mentor on a credit risk scoring project as the year-end deliverable.

Where they landed

Completed a full end-to-end credit risk scoring notebook as the final project. The project was the participant's own work; the mentor's role was to ask useful questions about methodology choices during the development process.

"The monthly sessions between the two courses were what I did not know I needed. They kept the material alive during the gap and gave me somewhere to bring the questions I was accumulating from applying things at work."
